What Vero Beach is like for active adults
Vero Beach is a popular retirement community of 17,000 that supports a much larger community outside of its borders. Located in the middle of Florida’s Atlantic Coast, the town is in several parts – a ‘beach” area on the barrier island with a resort feel, and a large downtown across the bay on the mainland. It has long been a popular retirement destination for active adults 55 plus because of its warm winters, abundant coastline and waterways, ample number of developments and housing types. Route 1 is quite busy with a considerable number of strip malls and retail businesses. There are a number of places on the National Register of Historic Places, including the Driftwood Inn and the Royal Park Arcade. With so many people in retirement here there is always something to do - from a concert to playing golf or tennis.

There are countless active adult developments and planned communities to choose from with a wide range of costs and types of facilities, including 55+ and active seniors communities. One of the nicest is The Moorings. Vero Beach was hard hit by Hurricane Frances in 2004. Tremendous stretches of housing on the beachfront were damaged or destroyed, and are still being rebuilt. The Zillow Home Value Index in Vero Beach was $132,700 in  early 2014 according to Zillow.com. However, since the Vero Beach area is very big, prices will vary greatly by neighborhood, type of housing, and proximity to the ocean.

What people are saying about Vero Beach

Re: Vero Beach has a lot more than you give it credit for
I agree with you about VB.com, jfb48, when it comes to events. Another place to look for events and activities is the local chamber of commerce - Indian River Chamber of Commerce I've talked to a few tourists and part-time residents who tell me they've tried using VB.com to find local businesses, but they're surprised to see that there's only about 400 businesses on their site. Makes Vero Beach look like Mayberry! I suggest some yellow page directories or a local site similar to the chamber: Vero Beach Business Directory Hope that helps. [quote:679b9e72ef="jfb48"]I’m really enjoying your website. Naturally, I searched on Vero and found that it was rated low for cultural events. Thought you should know that Vero is one busy place when it comes to culture. Riverside Park has plays, concerts, speakers’ forums and a wonderful art museum. You might want to check out www.verobeach.com to get a sense of what I’m talking about. Every weekend we find ourselves in the park for things like a Boston Pops concert, an art show, a play. The park is large with public boat launches, tennis courts, barbecue areas and it’s right on the Intercoastal with its own war memorial island. Really, really lovely. We also have a big oceanographic institute, a botanical garden, and at least for one more season, the Dodgers.[/quote:679b9e72ef]
