| What Park City is like for active adults |
'''Park City, Utah''' is a former mining town located in Utah’s Wasatch Mountains that is the perfect '''retirement community''' for active adults 55+. A charmingly restored mining town would be one distinction, but Park City has lots more. From its downtown it has a chair lift to the top of the enormous Park City Ski Resort. Robert Redford’s annual Sundance Film Festival is here. World class restaurants and shops in reclaimed buildings from the mining era attract shoppers. The Winter Olympics were held here in 2002. It is a scene of great beauty and outdoor pursuits of every description. Park City is at an elevation of 6980’. Salt Lake City, along with other famous ski resorts such as Alta, Snowbird, are just a short drive away.
Adventurous skiers come for Park City Ski Resort’s challenging ski runs and those of adjacent areas Deer Valley and The Canyons. The cross country skiing is excellent. The summer season is the most popular, however. Retirees come for the hiking, outdoor sports, wildlife, and the beauty of its terrain. Others feast in the festival of independent films. Many are part-time residents.
Prices are quite expensive because there is a limited supply of privately available land. While real estate prices in most of the U.S. fell in 2006, Utah real estate gained. The average home sells for over $500,000. A review on Yahoo Real Estate in 2006 found 2,103 homes for sale on MLS with a median price of $749,900. There were 1,541 in the classifieds with median price of $969,000. Many have spectacular views of the mountains. Living in the village of Park City is convenient because everything is in walking distance. Condos in nearby Dear Valley are very expensive, and trailside log homes typically cost in the multi-millions.
