| What Blacksburg is like for active adults |
The home of the Hokie Nation, Blacksburg is where Virginia Tech University comes to study and play in western Virginia. The scenery in the mountains is spectacular, and so are the recreation possibilities. Blacksburg is a great college town and an excellent place to retire. The population is growing, about 44,000 people live here. There are 2 shopping malls: the University Mall and the New River Valley Mall. There are more than 500 acres of parks, an aquatic center, and a Community Center.
Average home values in mid 2009 were in the high $100's, although there are many homes available for much more. Blacksburg has at least one active adult community - see link at right.
