| What Goodyear is like for active adults |
Goodyear has been one of the fastest growing cities in Arizona, with a 2006 population of just under 50,000. It can boast of being the spring training home of 2 major baseball teams (both from Ohio) - the Cleveland Indians and the Cincinatti Reds. Goodyear is one of the farther out towns from Phoenix, developed in part because developers of 55+ communities have moved to find cheaper land in the Arizona desert. Goodyear is west of Phoenix proper, and south and west of Glendale. Two colleges have purchased land in Goodyear for possible future development - Franklin Pierce University and the University of the Incarnate Word.
The fiscal and real estate crisis of 2008-9 has hit this region hard. Overall real estate prices in the Phoenix Metro have fallen off of a cliff - the median selling price in 2009's 1st Quarter was $129,200, down 42% from the year earlier period. City-Data.com reports the average price of homes in Goodyear has declined from about $350,000 to just under $150,000 in the 1st Q of 2009. |
