| What Dunnellon is like for active adults |
The small town of Dunnellon is located in north central Florida above and to the east of Spring Hill. Dunnellon and surrounding area (the "Treasure of the Nature Coast") welcomes visitors with small-town charm. Even though Dunnellon is a small town it is only 20 miles from Ocala (to the northeast),which is large and growing rapidly. Crystal River is about the same distance in the opposite direction, and is just a few miles from the Gulf of Mexico. Marion county is thoroughbred horse raising country with some rather famous name owners with names like Disney and Steinbrenner. This was once a wild boom town created by miners attracted to the area’s rich phosphate deposits.
In 2009 the town had just under 2000 residents, but considerably more live in several active adult communities built in this area. Housing prices are quite low; the median price sunk into the $80's in the first quarter of 2009 according to City-Data.com. But the Zillow Home Index Value is currently $117,500, with many houses being offered for sale in the mid $150's. |
