| What Hiawassee is like for active adults |
Hiawassee is a small town of less than 1,000 bordering Lake Chatuge (Hiawassee Lake is in NC). The town is very close to the North Carolina and South Carolina borders. It has many activies from boating, hiking, golfing, fishing, community involvement, the list is endless. There are local arts and crafts festivals, a county fair, gardens, music festivals and weekly music on the square from local talent. If you like to golf, the area has 3 upscale golf courses. The tallest peak in Georgia, Brasstown Bald welcomes hikers, nature lovers and picnics too. Our lake offers 150 miles of shore line, that can be enjoyed to everyone.
We are not aware of any active adult or 55+ communities in the area, but we predict they will be coming. Average home prices were about $200,000 in mid 2009, with many ups and downs. |

| Medical facilities |
We have a small hospital in town, in addition to doctor offices (many from Atlanta with sitelite offices here), several dentists and an eye doctor. Also there are a few assisted living units, nursing home, and many home health agencies to choose from. There are two other hospitals near by towns and we are about an hour from Gainesville, and only two from Atlanta, Asheville and Chattanooga.
