| What St Marys is like for active adults |
St. Marys is a fast growing town in extreme southeastern Georgia with more than 17,000 residents. It is the access to Cumberland Island, one of the gorgeous Sea Islands off Georgia's southern coast. St. Marys gets a favorable mention by most people considering living in the area. It is near the naval base and is popular for military retirements. Obviously recreation is outstanding with so much waterfront everywhere. Many of the homes and downtown buildings are old and cute. St. Mary's is the second oldest continually occupied town in the U.S. (after St. Augustine). The city is the gateway to Cumberland Island National Seashore, it is also home to the Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base.

There are many active adult communities in the area (see link at top right for St. Marys).
Real estate prices are somewhat reasonable for this area so close to prestigious Sea Island, St Simons Island, and Amelia Island (FL). The median list price of a home in 2010 was about $169,000 (Zillow.com). |
