What Islandia is like for active adults
Islandia is small village in the middle of Long Island, New York.  It is about 50 miles east of New York City. Although it is not on the coast, it is a short drive to either the Long Island Sound side (north), or Atlantic Ocean Beaches. 
 
Zillow reports the median value of a home in 2009 was estimated at about $37,000. Taxes on Long Island tend to be high.  There are a number of active adult and senior communities in this area.

What is special about this retirement community
Islandia is on Long Island, which is a very interesting place to live, particularly for boaters or beach goers. One has access to either the Atlantic Ocean or Long Island Sound within a short drive. Also not too far away is the east end of Long Island, which is becoming a significant tourist draw with many wineries and B & B's.

Long Island tends to be crowded and expensive. It is very hard to get on and off of - either drive to New York to rejoin the mainland, or take a ferry to Connecticut.

Climate and Physical Environment
Located approximately in the center of Long Island in Suffolk County. Long Island is a long peninsula that stretches from New York City almost all the way to Block Island, Rhode Island. It is the remnant of a glacier from the last Ice Age. Islandia is part of the town of Islip
