Overall
Colorado is one of the top retirement places for baby boomers from all over the country. Many have vacationed here or came to love these Rockies during college or the military. The scenery from its mountains iis exceptional and so are the recreation opportunities. The economy is strong and becoming more diversified - many cities like Fort Collins and Boulder are booming.

Climate
The Colorado climate is that of a steppe - characterized by high altitudes. Summers can be hot and dry and winter precipitation often comes in deep snows. The sun tends to shine a lot. Much of the state is either desert or mountain.
Economy
Per capita income at just over $36,000 is one of the highest of any state. Median home prices can differ - in Fort Collins the mid 2006 median price was $237,500 - a bit over the national median of $220,000. Cost of living there was just above the national average of 100. Boulder, home of the University of Colorado, was more expensive in the 1st quarter of 2008- median home price of $355,700 and Cost of Living Index of 126.
Taxes
Colorado top marginal income tax rate is 4.63%, one of the lowest. State sales tax is an extremely low 2.9%, although local sales taxes can be significant. Total tax burden in Denver is well below the national average.
