| What Jackson is like for active adults |
People looking for a retirement community in Jackson will find that it is a small town (4,000 people) in the historic gold mining country of California. Jackson is nestled at the 1200 foot level in the Sierra Nevada foothills in Amador County, east of Sacramento. Teaming with the rich history of days gone by, Jackson has successfully blended the old and the new. It offers the serenity and friendliness of small town charm that is also close to nature. The City of Jackson is the center of trade and industry in Amador County.
Median home values were about $229,400 in mid 2009 according to Zillow.com, although City-Data says median home prices are less than $200,000. The area is experiencing rapid growth, much of it from retirees who want to remain in California but don't want to pay the high prices associated with coastal California.
