Fort Pierce, the Sunrise City, is a striving community mid-way down the east coast of Florida. It is  often used as a retirement community with a growing population just over 42,000. The downtown, located on the riverfront of the Indian River Lagoon and a waterfront park, affords residents contemporary shopping, and dining. Main Street Fort Pierce, Inc., a comprehensive revitalization program designed to encourage economic development in conjunction with historic preservation, some say it has been successful in reviving the downtown. An example of its success is the number of community festivals that it brings here. What people are saying about Fort Pierce

retirement in ft pierce
I worked at lawnwood as a travel nurse and I can tell you I would never retire in ft. pierce. half the population is foreign and there is not even a star bucks or good restaurant in this town. big drug problem and the housing is depressing. I did not like being there and never felt safe. no shopping either. port st. lucie is 7 miles away and much nicer. florida is a big state and unless you are destitute and want to barricade yourself in a house and never leave, ft. pierce is not retirement friendly at all. you would fear for your life most of the time and spent the other half in other towns, shopping and dining. I really do not think anyone would want to retire here.
