Residential areas of the county are primarily single-family neighborhoods, along with many condos and villas. An amazing 40% of the homes have water access thanks to a maze of canals and estuaries, complete with hundreds of species of marine life. Dozens of active adult developments, neighborhoods, and gated communities of every type are available in Cape Coral (see link at right). Some have facilities like golf courses,clubhouses, or tennis courts - some have no facilities.
Compared to nearby Punta Gorda this is not a high profile town nor is it pretentious - but it can offer a very nice lifestyle for a reasonable amount of money. The median sales price of a home in Port Chalotte was about $153,200 in mid-2016, according to Zillow. For the entire Fort Myers/Cape Coral Metro the NAR reported a median selling price of $220,100 during the first quarter of 2016.
