The climate is humid Mediterranean, with most of the rainfall between May and August.

The surrounding area is famous wine country. with over 138 wineries. The climate is described as similar to that of Bordeaux in a dry vintage. While the area only makes up 3% of Australia's wine production, it accounts for 20% of premium sales.
