A relatively isolated, small beach community, Orange Beach is located on a barrier island along the Gulf Coast close to the west Florida border. Bustling in the summer and much quieter in the winter, The year round population is just over 6,000 and growing. Orange Beach is a booming tourist town. Fishing and golf-centric, Orange Beach also has beautiful bright-white beaches. The Wharf is a large shopping and entertainment venue, and the Orange Beach Arts Center sponsors the annual Festival of the Arts.


Where to Retire in Orange Beach and Home Prices

Orange Beach real estate is widely diversified. Homes range from humble little one-families and condominiums for less than $100,000, all the way to penthouse condos in the millions. Some active communities feature golf. The Zillow median home value in early 2021 was $362,194.


What Is Special about Orange Beach

The Orange Beach Islands, also known as the Islands of Perdido Pass, consisting of Bird Island, Robinson Island, Gilchrist Island, and Walker Island. You can paddle to boat to them. Orange Beach has a new, beautiful Active Adults Center, as well as the Arts Center, a waterfront park, backcountry trails, and lovely beaches. The City of Orange Beach hosts many sporting events and tournaments at the Orange Beach Sportsplex. From there the Gulf State Park has many trails to enjoy.

What Is Not Special about Orange Beach

There is no public transportation here, and no hospital. It is also very heavily touristy in the summer, including an influx of spring breakers.

Those who enjoy lazy days and don't mind crowds retire here.

Local Economy Is Driven by

Tourism, second homes, and retirement drive the economy.


Climate and Physical Environment

Winters are mild, and the summers are hot. Average July temperature is 80 and average Jan temp is 50.


Restaurants & Cultural Scene

In addition to the beachy culture, the Arts Center hosts events and concerts that contribute to the scene.


The crime rate is slightly above average. Violent crimes are rare, but there are burglaries and thefts.


Medical Facilities

There is no hospital here, but the South Baldwin Regional Medical Center is 12 miles away in Foley.



There is no public transportation in Orange Beach.
