Elk Grove is an affluent town and suburb of about 66,000 people. The town is about 15 miles south of Sacramento, and played a part in the early gold rush in this area. After that it became a close-knit community evolved with a distinctly rural and western lifestyle, and now it is a also a wealthy suburb. There is a community college in town, Cosumnes River College. It also boasts a picnic area and local artwork; the Old Town Plaza is an outdoor open-air plaza that  hosts community events, art/craft/antique fairs, exhibitions, festivals.  For more culture, Sacramento is just 15 miles north.
