San Jose is one of California's largest cities with a population of almost 1 milllion.  It is a very affluent and prosperous city with many educational, cultural, and high-tech business resources.  San Jose State University is just one of many colleges in the area.

There are any number of active adult communities in the San Jose region (See Active Communities link at top left).  The National Association of Realtors reports the median sale price to be $1,500,000 during the first quarter of 2021, making it one of the priciest markets in the nation.


What Is Special about San Jose

As the heart of Silicon Valley this is a very dynamic area with wonderful proximity to San Francisco. San Jose State makes it a nice college town. It has many well-funded cultural and civic venues such as the HP Pavillion and the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts. There are numerous parks including the Almaden Quicksilver County Park, which totals 4,147 acres, and the large Rosicrucian Park downtown. There are 53 miles of trails in the city.

Climate and Physical Environment

San Jose is just south of San Francisco near the coast. It has an elevation going from just below sea level to 4,372 feet at Copernicus Peak. The city receives 300 days of sunshine a year.

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

There are lots of interesting restaurants in this affluent area. Major cultural institutions include the HP Pavillion, the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts, the Egyptian Museum, ballet, opera, and the San Jose Museum of Art, one of the nation's leading Modern Art museums. The Sharks are the local professional hockey team.


Crime is lower than average, a considerable accomplishment for a city of this size.

Medical Facilities

There are numerous hospitals including Good Samaritan and Kaiser.


There is rail (Amtrak and Caltrain) in addition to light rail via ACE.
