Santa Clarita Valley (not similar sounding Santa Clara) contains one of the larger cities in LA County, as well as many other developments. The valley was part of the Rancho San Francisco Mexican land grant. Some of the communities within it include the city of Santa Clarita, which is made up of Canyon Country, Newhall, Saugus, and Valencia. Adjacent unincorporated communities include Castaic, Stevenson Ranch, Sunset Pointe, Tesoro, Val Verde, Westridge and the new master planned community of Newhall Ranch.

Downstream of Santa Clarita, the valley is called Heritage Valley, consisting of Piru, Fillmore, and Santa Paula. The upstream portion is called Soledad Canyon which contains the communities of Vincent, Acton, Ravenna, and Agua Dulce.

According to Zillow, the median home selling price in Santa Clarita was $660,729 in mid-2021, the median sale price in Valencia was $682,762 during this same period. There is an active adult community in Santa Clarita, see link at left.

Retirees who enjoy biking and walking would enjoy living here. Santa Clarita Valley has historical sites, parks, golf, events and festivals. Santa Clarita offers Dial-A -Ride transportation for seniors and there are active senior centers within the Santa Clarita Valley that offer programs and activities. Los Angeles is just 30 miles away.

Local Economy Is Driven by

The economy here is diverse with health care, retail, manufacturing and education services all important to the area. The biggest employers are Six Flags Magic Mountain and Princess Cruise Lines.

The average January temperature is 51 degrees with the low about 43 degrees. July's average is 79 degrees, with July's high at 93 degrees.

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

The Santa Clarita Valley is home to several nice restaurants with various cuisine, along with pubs and wineries. The town of Santa Clarita has golf courses, parks, over 30 miles of on-street bike lanes, and over 40 miles of natural paths for walking; the town also holds many events, and Six Flags amusement park is located here; Santa Clarita is home to three theaters, including the Canyon Theatre Guild, The MAIN and the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons. The California Institute of the Arts, commonly referred to as CalArts is located in Valencia.



The Crime rate in Santa Clarita is well below the national average.

Medical Facilities

There are many medical facilities located within the Santa Clarita Valley including those in Santa Clarita, Newhall and Valencia.


Many modes of transportation are provided throughout most of the Santa Clarita Valley including bus service, Metrolink trains which connect to downtown Los Angeles, and there are miles of paved bicycle paths and roadways; the League of American Bicyclists recognized Santa Clarita as a "Bronze" level Bicycle Friendly Community; the nearest airport is in Burbank 20 miles away, and Los Angeles International Airport is about 40 miles away.
