Coral Springs, Florida, is a unique master-planned city that was developed by a division of Westinghouse, and officially chartered in 1963 for 50,000 residents. But during the 1970's through the 1990's, the popular town grew rapidly, with the population swelling to approximately 121,000 in the 2010 census. Located in Broward County, twenty miles northwest of Fort Lauderdale, Coral Springs has been recognized for its overall livability, low crime rate, aesthetic appeal (due to strict building codes), and family-friendly orientation. The growing city has added several public schools, malls, shopping centers and parks, but contrary to its name, there are no springs located here.
