Notre Dame, Indiana, is a small, unincorporated community in St. Joseph County, and is solely a college town. As unincorporated communities do not have municipal governments, Notre Dame's government entities only include the United States Post Office, located on a college campus, and the colleges' separate police forces. The population of approximately 7,000 includes the campuses of The University of Notre Dame, Saint Mary's College and Holy Cross College, and accounts for the town's median age to be very low at only 20 years. The small town is also home to three major headquarters of the Holy Cross religious communities. Notre Dame is located just two miles north of South Bend, a large city with a population of over 100,000.
