Cascais : Portugal

What It Is Like to Retire in Cascais

About thirty minutes from Lisbon, Cascais is a small, bright, cosmopolitan city in Portugal nestled on the Atlantic coast. Swelling with tourists in the summer months, Cascais is populated by expats in addition to the Portugese all year round. Expensive by Portugese standards, expats find Cascais very affordable. Perfect for the active retiree, sailing, biking and golfing are all popular activities.

Caiscais is a peaceful but active city with all the modern amenities. There is a farmer's market twice a week; most residents prepare their food fresh from scratch. All the great European cities are at your doorstop: Madrid and Barcelona are within driving distance, and the south of France is just a day's drive away.

What Is Not Special about Cascais

Gas is pricey, about twice as much as it is the US. Unless you have an entrepreneurial spirit, it's nearly impossible to find employment with a Portugese company.
