Alicante, a beautiful and vibrant city is centrally located on Spain’s Mediterranean coast and looks towards the sea. As one of the most popular towns along the Costa Blanca, it is known for its miles of sandy beaches, and is a tourist destination along with becoming popular with expats for retirement. The Paseo de la Explanada, is considered one of the most beautiful seafront promenades in Spain. Alicante is also a university city with numerous schools and technical colleges, including the campus of the University of Alicante, with more than 30,000 students. The city also offers many sporting opportunities and cultural activities. The city lies directly at the Mediterranean Sea, and is a popular town along the Costa Blanca offering beautiful sandy beaches, and about perfect weather. There are many historical building for sightseeing, and the promenade Explanada de Espana is a popular meeting place and considered one of the most beautiful in Spain, paved with 6.5 million marble floor tiles. The Santa Barbara castle sits on Mount Benacantil over looking the city.

Lots of tourists visit Alicante. As one of the fastest growing cities in Spain, the construction boom has raised environmental concerns.

Retirees who want to live in a beautiful coastal city with mild winters and hot summers may want to make their home here. Alicante also boasts many historical sites, parks, festivals, and health care. The city also has an airport and tram service.
 

Local economy is driven by

Tourism drives the economy, but real estate, agriculture, wine production, services and administration also play a role. It is the headquarters for the offices of the European Union, and home to one of the largest film studios in Europe, with many famous Spanish and International films shot here. Alicante was one of the the fastest-growing Spanish cities, but was hit hard during the global recession in 2008. Today, the city is prospering and growing rapidly once again.
 

Climate and Physical Environment

Summer temperatures average 89 degrees, with winter temperatures a mild 60 degrees. The average annual rainfall is 12.2" with the rainiest months September and October.
 

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

Sandy beaches, historical sites, and a vibrant social scene attracts people to this city throughout the year. Each summer the city hosts a two-month long music, theatre and dance program. Alicante is also the headquarters and starting point of a yacht race around the world. There are many restaurants here that offer great local cuisine from very expensive to budget-friendly.

The crime rate in Alicante is low.

There are different types of medical facilities available here including International Hospital Medimar.
 

Transportation

Alicante's airport has connections to all parts of Spain and Europe. The city also has a bus station with service to many parts of Spain, and has a central train station that offers daily connections to Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona and Seville.
