York is a small, historic town in located in north central South Carolina, not far from the North Carolina border. It is the county seat of York County which is part of the greater Charlotte, North Carolina metropolitan area. During the Revolutionary War, York was the only county that remained undefeated. The town was incorporated in 1841 as a market center and was known as Yorkville until 1927, when the name was changed to York. The town has a diverse population of 8,503 (2020 Census), and is home to one of state’s largest Historic Districts.
