What It Is Like to Retire in Almeria

Almeria is the capital of the Province of Almeria in Southeastern Spain.  This ancient town was established by the Moors in 955 and was frequently fought over during the Crusades. The area is a popular one for tourism and for active adult communities. Because of its prominent desert features Almeria was the location for many spaghetti westerns and other famous movies (Lawrence of Arabia).

There is at least one active adult community near Almeria (see link at top right). Prices of real estate are in a great range from over 50,000 Euros for something very small or needing renovation to well over 1 million Euros. There is a good selection between 100,000-200,000 Euros. What Is Special about Almeria

Almeria has many interesting sights to see, including the Alcazaba, a mediaeval fortress begun in the 13th century but destroyed by an earthquake in 1522.  The cathedral is quite interesting. It also has the largest naturist beach in Spain, which local authorities would like to downplay.  One of Spain’s natural jewels is the Cabo de Gata Natural Park. The Park runs a long way through the beautiful and ecologically rich coasts of the western Mediterranean. The beaches are very special in Almeria and surrounding towns.
