Rio Verde in Arizona is neither a town or a city, but rather a master planned community and a census-designated place in Maricopa County. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Rio Verde is an established, member-owned and governed active adult golfing community northeast of Scottsdale. Its location near the Verde River and adjacent to the Tonto National Forest, the McDowell Mountain Regional Park, and the Yavapai Nation Indian Reservation provides a scenic setting.
