Crime |
Crime in Naples is a little less than two thirds the national average. |
Medical facilities |
In addition to Naples Community Hospital, the Cleveland Clinic has a facility in Naples. Sometimes it seems like every other building houses a medical practice or facility - there is no shortage of medical care here! |
Transportation |
The city is served by the Naples Municipal Airport and the Delta Connection, which flies to Atlanta. Southwest Florida International Airport, in South Fort Myers is just a short trip up the Interstate. Most of the low-cost carriers are there, offering convenient non-stop service to many destinations. Car traffic is intense in season. Downtown Naples is way above average in walkability when compared to other communities, but once out of the downtown that is not so. |

Changing Naples | |
My wife and I live in Naples year round. I have only been here 5 years but my wife has lived here for 38 years. Naples is beautiful filled with many gorgeous historic mansions, gated communities, and high end shopping. The restaurants are amazing with tastes and styles for everyone though very crowded and pricey especially during the “season” which starts slowly in October and builds to its peak January through March. Golf is abundant but with few public courses as most of the gated communities have their own courses with high priced buy-ins. As for the arts there is Artis-Naples with the Naples philharmonic and nearby Barbara B Mann Theater plus some very nice local theaters. For sports the Red Sox and Twins have spring training facilities, there is a minor league hockey team and Florida Gulf Coast College sports. During season the roads and parking are very challenging and dangerous if you ride a motorcycle or bicycle. Unfortunately as happens is so many areas in Florida, Naples is in the midst of uncontrolled growth. Just about every undeveloped parcel of land is being bulldozed over for more assisted living facilities or gated communities. For those who wanted to escape the congestion on the east coast of Florida Naples is becoming just as bad. Naples used to be a great eclectic town of a small high end downtown and 5th Ave. and incredible beaches but this uncontrolled growth is rapidly changing Naples as historic homes and builds are being torn down to be replaced by cookie cutter mansions and strip malls. | |
