Danville is a town of about 16,000 people in central Kentucky, about 30 minutes from Lexington. Some people are considering it for retirement because it is of manageable size, low cost, and convenient to Lexington.  The architecture is very pretty according to some reports and the people are friendly to outsiders. There is a small downtown and a good library. The National Trust for Historic Preservation gave Danville the Great American Main Street Award for its charming downtown. Danville is attractive, low cost,and of a manageable size.  There is a good library.  It is in horse country. The people who live here seem to really love its version of  "Small town USA".

The Great American Brass Band Festival draws bands from all over. Norton Center for the Arts, on the campus of Centre College, attracts big-name performing groups.  There are some restaurants in town and some in nearby places like Harrodsburg. Great American Brass Band Festival is one of 2 annual festivals.


The crime rate is lower than the national average.

Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center provides acute care services in town. There are nearby hospitals from 11 to 26 miles away.



Blue Grass Airport is 36 miles away and the nearest International airport is in Louisville, about 80 miles from Danville.
