What it's Like to Retire in Pickwick Lake

Pickwick Lake is a large lake that straddles Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee. it is about 60 miles from Jackson, MS and a bit farther east of Memphis.  Iuka (MS) is the nearest town of any size, although it is less than 4,000 people and is about 12 miles south of Pickwick Lake. The lake offers tremendous recreation for vacationers, weekenders, and retirees. The area is remote and poor, however.

There is at least one large active community in the area.  According to City-data.com, the median price of homes in Iuka was about $82,000 in 2011, although in a large active community it will be higher.

It is a really big lake that touches 3 states.

If you aren't into fishing, boating or camping there isn't much else to do. It is isolated with no big city nearby.
