Nags Head : North carolina

What It Is Like to Retire in Nags Head

Nags Head is a resort community on the Outer Banks (OBX) of North Carolina.  The population is only about 3,000, although it swells to 10s of thousands in summer. It is just across the bay from Manteo.  The ocean beaches are exceptional with beautiful dunes and rolling waves. This is the area where the Wright Brothers were the first to successfully fly in a heavier than air machine. The huge dunes in the area of that park are something to see. The average age is in the mid 40s as many retirees choose this place to retire.  The downside here is that there is always a risk from hurricanes, so many retirees only come here for part of the year.

What people are saying about Nags Head

No comments on Nags Head!
I was surprised to see that no one has commented on retirement in Nags Head, NC. It is such a beautiful place with the ocean and the sound views all day. I don\'t live there but my friend bought a home there on the sound side and he calls it his oasis. Right now he is not a full time resident, but is considering it when he retires this coming year. Yes, summertime it gets crowded as it is a very popular beach community. Traffic can get rough during those months and restaurants fill up quick. I bought my retirement home in Oak Island, NC last year as it was closer to our grandchildren and housing prices were more reasonable. But the beaches in Nags Head are nicer. Just surprised there are no comments on Nags Head.
