Davidson is an upscale college town in southwestern North Carolina, home to the elite Davidson College. The population is growing rapidly and is now over 12,000 people. Local downtown businesses, characterized by restaurants and specialty shops, cater to an affluent market. Prestigious, nationally known Davidson College has made the town an intellectual and cultural center, drawing into its orbit professionals and some retirees. The town of Davidson received National Register Historic District status in 2009 for the historic core of the town, which includes downtown.The western edge of the town follows the shoreline of Lake Norman, a large reservoir on the Catawba River. The presence of Davidson College is the big draw to this town which has an affluent population. It has been called walk and bike friendly. Steph Curry went to college here, as did Woodrow Wilson.

If you are not looking for a small college town you won't like Davidson. Homes are twice as expensive than in most towns in NC.

Climate and Physical Environment

Davidson is located in the Piedmont of North Carolina in northern Mecklenburg County, 20 miles north of Charlotte. Lake Norman is to the west. The average July temperature is about 80 and the average Jan. temperature is 40.
 

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

The downtown has restaurants and shops like you would expect in a college town. Davidson is served by a branch of the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. The Davidson College Arboretum dates back to the 1850s. It also features the Katherine and Tom Belk Visual Arts Center.
 

Crime

The crime rate is a fraction of the national average.
 

Medical facilities

Charlotte and its extensive medical facilities are about 20 miles away.
 

Transportation

The Charlotte Airport is a major hub, a big plus.
