The city is a regional center located on the Red River on the eastern border next to Minnesota.  North Dakota State University is one of several universities in Fargo and has 12,500 students here. The universities provide a vital presence in  Fargo.  The city has an active cultural life with many theatres and other cultural events. The Academy Award winning film "Fargo" was mostly shot in Minneapolis and other parts of North Dakota. Hector International Airport is located here; there is an Amtrak station in Fargo; the city is bicycle friendly with designated zones downtown for bikes.
