Life in Fredericksburg, TX
Being a resident of FBG, and not a native Texan, for about 12 years I can speak to the good and not so good things about FGB. Ultra conservative town, liberals are shunned. It is a very historic town, but unfortunately, it is changing. More and more wineries in the area are changing the type of visitor in town. While we still draw nearly a million visitors a year, things are very expensive. Housing is going through the ceiling - average home is now $360,000. Taxes are also high. Good hospital and good schools. Many guest homes for the visitor - expect to pay from $125 to $250 a night to stay in town -bring lots of money because the shops are very upscale and restaurants are pricey. Very few fast food establishments. Not too many things for young children. Low crime rate, but wages are poor for all the service workers. Difficult to find homes and apartments that are affordable for all the service workers needed to run the tourist business. It is a great retirement community which lives on volunteerism, but expensive to live. Has a good theatre for cultural activity. No big box stores which are 22 miles away in Kerrville. Town is very German in its heritage and Auslanders sometimes find it difficult to break into the inner workings of the city government - not what you know, but who you know. Overall, we enjoy living in FBG even with its conservative pitfalls.

Fredericksburg | |
Although I haven\'t been to Fredericksburg for awhile in the past I found the town quaint and historical. Wouldn\'t go here if you want entertainment. The town closes down at about 9:00 PM.
