What It Is Like to Retire in Martinsville

Martinsville is a city located in southern Virginia, just a few miles from the North Carolina border, and has a diverse population of about 13,000. The small town was named after American Revolutionary War General Joseph Martin, and is the county seat of Henry County, named after patriot Patrick Henry who lived here for a short time. In the early years, the city thrived as the plug chewing tobacco capital of the world, and later as a furniture and textile producer. Since the 1990’s the town has been undergoing changes and repositioning itself as a center for technology and manufacturing. Two colleges are located here which include Patrick Henry Community College, and The New College Institute that offers education facilities for students, businesses and the community.
