What It Is Like to Retire in Anglesea

The huge expanse of the Anglesea Bowling Club with its many team-uniformed bowlers gives an indication of how enjoyable retirement might be in this pleasant coastal town.  Located on the Great Ocean Road, it is a popular tourist area and summer get away from Melbourne. It has great beaches for surfing and swimming, plus a golf course and cricket club.  The town seems to have enough resources to support daily life, including medical care.  It is an easy drive from Melbourne which means some people with enough resources could use this as a seasonal place to retire. What Is Special about Anglesea

Anglesea is a very attractive, low key coastal town with many things for retirees to do. The Surf Coast Walk passes through the town and can either be followed north-east along the coastline to Torquay or south-east towards Aireys Inlet and Moggs Creek.

Climate and Physical Environment

Anglesea is on the Great Ocean Road. It is 110 kilometres  west of Melbourne, the state’s capital, and 37 kilometres from Geelong. The ocean helps keep a moderate year round temperature, but it is most popular in summer.

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

Anglesea is also well-known locally for its regular riverbank markets, which are held by the river on Anglesea's main street, the Great Ocean Road. In September the town hosts the Anglesea Wildflower Festival. The biennial Anglesea Music Festival held on Australia Day the 26th January that showcases acts local, national and international with a huge market day and festival activities. As a tourist area there is a choice of restaurants. Sport and the outdoors are the reigning culture. Anglesea has an Australian Rules football team competing in the Bellarine Football League. The town is also home of the Anglesea Cricket Club which competes in the Bellarine Peninsula Cricket Association. Golfers play at the Anglesea Golf Club on Noble Street, which is famous for the grey kangaroos which roam the fairways.

There is very little crime in Anglesea.
