Hilton Head : South carolina

What It Is Like to Retire in Hilton Head

Hilton Head is a retirement community located on an island of the same name at the extreme southern edge of South Carolina. This area is known for its beautiful beaches and fabulous golf courses. The majority of its 37,000 residents are active adults 55+ who choose this island and the surrounding area as their ideal retirement community. The Island swells to almost 300,000 people during the busy summer tourist season.

The area tends to be quite exclusive and most of it comprised of planned developments, usually referred to as “plantations”. The Heritage Classic Tournament is an important yearly event that takes place at one of these, Sea Pines Plantation.  The Harbour Town Lighthouse from that area is pictured above. Hilton Head is located in Beaufort County. What people are saying about Hilton Head

HH- Not what it use to be..
Way to busy....out of control traffic. Not a peaceful place anymore. Moved out years ago to small beach town up in the Mid Atlantic. Much happier.

Hilton Head ISLAND, SC
Getting old and run down. Extremely intolerant conservative republican bastion. If you don't love and echo Rush you will not like it here and they will not like you. Traffic impossible getting on/off island. About 1/3 of the Island has been declared a high crime area by the Sheriff and includes large areas in three locations which essentially includes the entire island. Robbery, armed home invasions, assault are everyday events. Republican led government is not protecting what made the island famous. Overly dense with inadequate bridges. The concern for limited night lighting is no longer and green space disappearing....waterfront park recently given to Kroger for new grocery store. HHI airport has shortest runways in USA and dangerous. Politcally intolerant and racist; high crime; too many tourists;poor access to and from (one bridge!!!);old, tired and rundown.
