Just across Puget Sound from Seattle on the extreme northeastern tip of the Olympic Peninsula is Port Townsend, a thriving port settlement before Seattle was founded. Then the Union Pacific Railroad bypassed the city, sending it into an economic tailspin. While bad at the time, this event was serendipitous for the many baby boomer retirees who have made it their retirement community, who enjoy its incomparable stock of Victorian buildings and houses.
