My Timeshare Is an Albatross
Category: Financial and taxes in retirement
December 3, 2025 – Maybe you have had a timeshare for a long time. Probably you got to enjoy some fun vacations with it, maybe even trading it for a different location or time. But as time goes on you used it less and less, and began to resent the recurring fees.
The problem is that most time shares are hard to get rid of. There is a small market for resales, and prices are low. One expert calls them “worthless.” Even walking away from them is difficult. Seems like maybe the only good ones are those that go for a finite period, then end. At least you can out from under them in that case.
The New York Times has a short and excellent article, “My Timeshare Is an Albatross“. Use the link to view the article at no cost, which also has a wealth of comments.
