December 17, 2025– I am sad to report that the last issue of our Best Places newsletter was sent out this morning. Unfortunately, and for a lot of reasons, visits to our site have slowed down dramatically in the past few years. That means that it is no longer economically viable to continue the weekly newsletter.
The Topretirements.com website will continue to be available through December of 2026. All of our Blog articles and reviews of over 5,000 places to retire will be there to enjoy. If something momentous happens in the retirement space, we will publish a Blog article on it. There might be a few newsletter updates sent out by Substack.
I hope you will come often to check things out and contribute Comments, both to the Blog and the community reviews.

A special thanks to all of our wonderful Members and visitors. One of the great pleasures of my life has been the 1000’s of interesting and wise comments people like you have contributed since the site launched in 2007. I have learned so much from you.
I also want to give a shout out to the many wonderful advertisers that have been the financial lifeblood of this site for so many years. I couldn’t finish this up without mentioning the two wonderful members of this team. Jeff, our highly talented web developer, helped us develop a smooth running site, solving hundreds of complex problems along the way. Thanks to both of you!

I can't tell you how much I've relied on you to help me in my retirement decisions. I subscribed several years before my job ended and faithfully researched destinations, based on your insight as well as information from others. It took me 10 years, but I am finally in my 'place.' We will miss you, John, and waking up to your newsletter every morning, giving us all the feeling of a cozy community (and sometimes rowdy family around the Thanksgiving table.) I learned so much over the years from your blog, and your readers’ candid opinions opened up new viewpoints I hadn’t considered. And thanks for keeping it classy! Feel like I’m losing a friend. While I understand your decision, I will greatly miss your weekly newsletter and eventually your website once it ends in 2026. I have been a subscriber since 2009 and have highly recommended your product to my participants in my seminar/webinar "How to Live a Happy Retirement" that I have been conducting for NITP since 2011! I thank you John and your whole team for a job well done and wish you the best of luck in your 'rewirement'.
