A Trip to India – A Worthwhile Check on the Bucket List

Category: Bucket Lists

March 27, 2018 — When we decided to visit India, one of the places on both of our bucket lists, my wife and I got one of two very opposite reactions. The first was incredulous, as in “why would you want to visit a place like that?” The second was either, “I have always wanted to go there”, or “I can’t wait to go back”.

One reason we wanted to visit India came from what we heard from fellow travelers. They spoke of the strange and awesome sights, the friendly people so different from us, and the wonderful food. For my wife, an avid reader captivated by the many

No thanks to that! Have seen from video's of the traffic from hell and the only thing that rules the roads are the cars horns.

What an excellent travel journal and with cautionary caveats. Yes, this is the land of poetry, exotic fables and vibrant colors. For sure, this is not a bragging Facebook type of post, but instead, a pleasant tease for the senses and imagination. My mind's eye can visually taste and smell your prose.

Thank you for sharing your travels. I hope you post more for us, that are just as detailed and descriptive, of other exotic lands.

India is lovely for travel, but expect to see extreme poverty mixed in with pockets of gorgeous luxury, the fabrics sold there are great and colorful and the tea and the food are fabulous. Taking the route of the Maharajas would be the way to go and the trip of a lifetime. I would buy a few of the outfits that the India women wear--they know how to dress for their climate and they look very elegant and colorful. I have grown to like some of the Bollywood film and actors, not even expecting them to be like American movies. It is rather fun, if I find I do not care for the themes then I turn them off. I do enjoy the music and the food. When I lived in Cairo, my nephew by marriage was the ambassador to India from Egypt and he said he had never seen such poverty even in Egypt. They did buy lots of lovely silver and gold. I have a lovely gold necklace which I wear on occasion. One of my memories...

India is an amazing country for sightseeing and people are very friendly and helpful. Indian food is delicious but very spicy. On my last trip to India, my foot was run over by a car and we had an emergency landing with our plane. India is not safe for women travelling alone. I was always with my husband the whole time I was visiting India. I was very careful eating but I still got dysentery a few times. India is beautiful but chaotic, dusty, noisy, and has terrible traffic with loud horns. I would recommend India only for the adventurous! Shopping in India is amazing for jewellery and silks.

I disagree about females traveling solo. I have done so forslightly over three weeks in India, mostly by train and loved it. One week up north in a tiger preserve, Chiang Mai, time in Agra and Delhi, and last week on the coast just relaxing. I never felt threatened in any way. Loved the food, but I adore spicy fare. Only complaint was the pollution in the cities. People were friendly and helpful as long as treated respectfully.
